As with all Part 103 aircraft — except for powered paragliders at some schools — there is no try-before-you-buy option. For insurance reasons, no trike instructor will let you solo in their trike. You must own your own trike to solo. Therefore:

  1. You train in a similar 2-seat trike.
  2. You buy your Part 103 trike.
  3. You make your first solo flight in your own Part 103 trike.
